Facial Aesthetics – our booking process

Facial aesthetics – prescriptions

Certain facial aesthetics treatments, i.e. Botulinum toxin treatments, such as Botox type injections are subject to medical prescription.  As a new client, if you are seeking such a treatment, with your explicit consent, I will pass your name and phone number on to my registered Prescriber.  The Prescriber will schedule a consultation appointment with you to conduct a simple, but thorough, medical assessment.

This will be in the form of a series of questions to ensure that there are no allergies or other health-related factors that could affect the treatment’s safety and efficacy.   Assuming there are no concerns, the Prescriber will notify me that they can prescribe and we can proceed with your facial aesthetics treatment.

Why are certain facial aesthetics treatments prescription only?

Botulinum toxin treatments, like Bocouture® and Botox®, are prescription-only due to their potent nature and are as such subject to consultation with a registered Prescriber. Derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, these treatments temporarily paralyze muscles to reduce wrinkles. However, incorrect dosage or improper administration can lead to complications.

By making Botulinum toxin treatments, like Bocouture® and Botox®, prescription-only, regulatory bodies ensure that only trained and qualified medical professionals administer these treatments, prioritizing patient safety.

This prescription requirement underscores the importance of a thorough consultation and evaluation before you undergo your facial aesthetics treatment.

The prescription only mandate also emphasizes the medical origins and applications of these products. Beyond cosmetic uses, Botox prescriptions and similar products have therapeutic applications for conditions like chronic migraines, excessive sweating, and certain muscle disorders.

Given the diverse potential uses and the precision required for safe administration, it’s imperative that a knowledgeable medical professional assesses the appropriateness of the treatment for each individual. This ensures that the patient receives the correct dosage and injection sites, minimizing risks.

In summary the prescriptions mandate, is a testament to the importance of safety and precision in their administration. Whether used for cosmetic or therapeutic purposes, these treatments have potent effects that require expert knowledge for appropriate use. By ensuring that only trained medical professionals can prescribe and administer these treatments, regulatory bodies prioritize patient well-being, ensuring that the benefits of the treatments are realized without compromising safety. As a Registered General Nurse, my experience and training means that I can administer your treatment within this mandate.
